About Darth Aloha

I am Eric AKA Darth Aloha, a recovering Unix sysadmin who has been operating deep sea autonomous underwater robots for 21 years.

For good and for bad I have been an ardent Mac user since 1988 when my High School bought a handful of SE pluses. There was a brief stint in the 1990s when I evangelized Linux on the desktop. Once OS X arrived I decided I wanted to get stuff done rather than doing work to get stuff done in Linux.

When I am not far offshore doing robot stuff and mapping the seafloor, I can be found doing more mundane domestic dad type shit around his house and property.

This is what ChatGPT had to say about me when asked:

Eric is a subsea engineer known for his work on the RV Petrel, a research vessel owned by the late Paul Allen. The RV Petrel, under Eric’s technical guidance, has made significant discoveries, including locating the wrecks of the USS Indianapolis, USS Lexington, and the Japanese battleship Musashi. His expertise contributed to the ship’s successful expeditions and the technological advancements used in deep-sea explorations.
